(Okoboji)– Fourth District Congressman Randy Feenstra made a stop today (Fri.) at Parks Marina where he learned about that business’ solar energy system. Feenstra says it speaks volumes for the wealth of renewable energy in his district…
“Giving energy to Parks Marina is just phenomenal. We saw that also in Estherville at a feed mill. You know these are things that we have, that we have renewable energy and solar and wind, biofuels, ethanol, biodiesel. This is what makes Iowa and the fourth district so great. We gave these hidden jewels that we have. I’m just impressed to see the savings that each of these businesses have and how our future plays out when we start looking more at these alternative types of energy.”
Businesses installing renewable energy systems rely heavily on federal and state renewable energy credits to help fund their installation costs. Asked about the future of those credits on the federal level, Feenstra said he would like to see them reconsidered every five years or so and that certain bench marks should be established to gauge their success…
“Everything’s got to be results based, and we have to look at it after a five year period and say alright, what results did we create? Can you start changing the credits and start reducing them and start trimming them downwards? So these are all things that to me, government is all results orientated especially when it comes to tax credits and stuff like that. That’s my job, that’s what I did in ways and means in the Iowa Senate and that’s what I would definitely do now that I’m in Congress.”
While he didn’t give a time frame, Feenstra said it is likely the credits will eventually go away, but he thinks it would be a gradual progress.
