(Sioux City)– A former registered nurse from northwest Iowa will serve more than two years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court to false statements relating to healthcare matters and aggravated identity theft.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 49-year-old Chad Hoppe of LeMars was sentenced July 9th. He pled guilty to the charges March 9th of last year.
Prosecutors say evidence revealed that between May, 2024 and March, 2025, Hoppe diverted two controlled substances that were intended for patient use, using them instead for himself. Court documents say Hoppe filed false orders for the narcotics, claiming to have permission from a physician when actually he did not.
Hoppe was released on bond previously set and is to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons at a date yet to be determined.
