(Lakefield, Mn.)– Crops around the region continue to make excellent progress, even with the recent hot weather. Jim Nesseth of Extended Ag Services in Lakefield says the soybean crop is in full bloom and the corn crop is in the pollination stage…
“Beans are obviously in full bloom. We kind of have to watch our restrictions as far as labels as far as growth stages in those soybeans for herbicide issues. But beans look good and of course the corn is just moving along really well. Most fields are about fully tasseled and plants are starting to silk so pollination is in full swing and I think we’ve got ample moisture there to have good pollination. Of course we’d like to get that temperature down just a little bit but I think we’ve got enough moisture in most of our fields that we can withstand these higher temperatures.”
While there haven’t been any reports of it yet, Nesseth says corn growers do need to be on the lookout for any signs of fungal disease.
