(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Community School District today (Tues.) held a ribbon cutting on some new construction and renovation projects at the elementary and middle schools. They were completed in about a year’s time, and it happened during a pandemic. But Superintendent Dr. David Smith says the multi-faceted project was a huge success given the challenges. And he says it’s something the district can be proud of for years to come…
“If you’re a former student, if you’re a parent, if you played in the gym right next door and you saw what this place used to look like, it was so tight. You’d walk in and it was just wall, wall, wall everywhere and browns and narrow. Now you walk in and it’s big, bright, open, and there’s so many collaboration spaces, a brand new office area, a new entrance to the gym and concessions. You look over and you see this furniture out there that’s going to be used for our kids for years to come with different types of learning experiences rather than just in the classroom. There’s going to be a lot of collaboration going on out here and maker space. That leads into the elementary which is equally important with our early childhood center. Five new classrooms which our enrollment was calling for and we needed it, and now we have five new classrooms to take care of our community for years to come.”
Construction was just completed days ago. Today (Tues.) was the first time students were able to be in the new space.
The project also consisted of some changes in the parking lot at the middle and elementary schools to improve flow and efficiency for picking up and dropping off students.
