Vilsack Sounds Off On Gambling While Hunting Pheasants In Dick. Co.

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Governor Tom Vilsack tried his luck at pheasant hunting Saturday in the Iowa Great Lakes Area. It was the first time Dickinson county has played host to the Governor’s annual pheasant hunt. Vilsack says the impact hunting has on Iowa’s economy can’t be overlooked. He says on the average, hunters spend about 400 million dollars on shells, equipment, restaurants, hotels, etc.

Vilsack says Iowa has done a lot with the cooperation of Pheasants Forever and other groups to increase pheasant habitat…making it the second highest state for pheasant population.

Vilsack talked about several issues during Saturday’s event, including gambling. He feels whether to lift the moratorium on gambling licenses is a decision that should be left to the legislature…not the state’s Gaming and Racing Commission.

Officials with Dickinson County Pheasants Forever say Saturday’s Governor’s hunt raised about 10-thousand dollars for the local organization.
