(Undated)– Children across Iowa will be heading back to school soon. Dr. Nadia Mushtaq (MOOSH-tock), a pediatrician with MercyOne, says there are a few things parents can do to help their children make the transition more smoothly…
“Start setting their bedtime a few hours early, more reflective of what the bedtime would look like when they’re back in school and start getting them up in the morning around the same time that they would be when they’re going back to school.”
She adds back to school time can also trigger anxiety among children. She offers some tips on how parents can help ease that…
“Sit down with your child. Ask them what it is they’re excited about, what is it they’re worried about, is it a new school? Can you maybe go and show the new school to them. Start having those conversations early on so you know how to help them.”
She adds it’s important children start their day with a healthy breakfast and enjoy plenty of fun activities leading up to the start of the school year.
