(Spencer)– A 13-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a recent rash of vandalism at a church, the post office and public library in Dickens.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a Crimestoppers tip led to the execution of a search warrant Tuesday evening on a residence at 306 2nd Street in Dickens where evidence was found linking the 13-year-old to the crime scenes.
The unidentified juvenile was charged with criminal mischief in the second degree…a hate crime…a class “C” felony. The charge is in connection with the spray painting of the church.
The teen was also charged with criminal mischief in the third and fifth degrees in connection with vandalism at the post office and library. He was taken to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee.
In addition, Sheriff Randy Krukow says deputies found drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine at the residence, resulting in the arrest of 46-year-old Debra Ann Dougherty. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine. Dougherty is being held at the Clay county jail on bond of nearly seven thousand dollars.
Sheriff Krukow says charges are pending against two other people in connection with the vandalism case.
He says the investigation by his office, the Spencer Police Department and the Clay County Attorney’s Office is continuing.
