(Spirit Lake)– An early season snow storm dumped six inches of the white stuff on the Iowa Great Lakes early Friday.
The storm forced many schools to start classes late, and some, like Graettinger-Terril and Ruthven-Ayrshire called off classes for the entire day. Iowa Lakes Community College cancelled it’s classes on all campuses and closed all offices at Noon.
The storm had already moved east of the region by early afternoon.
The heavy, wet snow sent unsuspecting motorists sliding into ditches. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says it received numerous reports of vehicles sliding into ditches. A couple of more serious accidents were reported as well (see related stories).
The National Weather Service says we can expect dry but cold conditions for the first part of the weekend, with the possibility of more snow late Sunday into early Monday. Even more snow could be possible with yet another storm system expected to arrive Tuesday or Tuesday night.
