(Estherville)– Significant damage was reported in a house fire early Tuesday in Estherville.
Fire Chief Travis Sheridan says crews were called to 920 North 13th Street around 2:30 am. He says the occupants managed to get out unharmed, but two dogs and three pet birds were still in the house.
Firefighters knocked down the fire on the exterior, and went inside, extinguishing the rest of the fire. Sheridan says they rescued the two dogs from a back bedroom but the birds didn’t survive.
Firefighters remained on the scene until nearly 5:00 am Tuesday.
Sheridan says an official cause is under investigation but it’s believed to be electrical in nature.
The displaced family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
