(Emmetsburg)– Another northwest Iowa city is feeling fallout from the Iowa legislature’s “Reinvent Iowa” program passed in the recently completed session.
Emmetsburg City Manager John Bird says it amounts to an 80-thousand dollar reduction in state funding to that city.
The city council met earlier this week to look at possible cuts. Bird says they include a reduction in staff in various departments including administration, the police department, library, community development office and/or the city’s recreation department.
Bird says he and City Clerk Jill Kliegl will meet with each department head and report back to the council at their meeting Monday evening with recommendations.
Bird says staff reductions are about the only option the city has to meet the 80-thousand dollar reduction in funding.
Bird expressed his frustration with the legislature, saying area cities should take buses to the statehouse and hand lawmakers keys to city halls, community colleges and schools.
