Spencer Police Gear Up For Citizen’s Academy

(Spencer)– The Spencer Police Department is gearing up for its annual Citizen’s Academy March 20th through May 22nd.

Lieutenant Mark Lawson says classes will be held each Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Lawson says a number of topics will be covered including the communications center, 911, reports, constitutional law, search and seizure, laws of arrest, use of force, traffic enforcement, radar, lidar, OWI enforcement, D-R-E, crime scene processing, criminal investigations, drug investigations, search warrants, arrest warrants, juvenile probation, adult corrections, jail field trips and a ride along.

The course will be presented by several guest speakers who are experts in their field.

Applications are currently available at the Spencer Police Department. The cost is 35-dollars per person which includes materials and supplies.

Those attending must be atleast 18 years of age.

The academy is open to anyone in the area.
