(Sioux City)– A Spencer man has pled guilty to federal drug and weapon charges.
31-year-old Joshua Currier entered the plea Tuesday to charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and illegal possession of a firearm, after having been previously convicted in Dickinson County District Court in June of 2011 for forgery. He had also been convicted in August of 2017 in Clay County District Court for domestic abuse assault impeding flow of air or blood. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says both of those convictions prohibit Currier from possessing a firearm.
At a plea hearing, Currier admitted that between January 2020 and continuing to on or about February 2021, he and others conspired to distribute 500 grams of methamphetamine, and that in December 2020, Currier possessed a 9 millimeter pistol as a prohibited person.
Sentencing is pending completion of a pre-sentence report. Currier in the meantime is in the custody of a U.S. Marshal.
