Another Lakes Area City Is Reviewing Its Public Access Policy

July 14, 2026

(West Okoboji)– The city of West Okoboji is reviewing its policy on renting boat slips on public accesses.

The city council was updated on the matter Monday evening by City Clerk-Administrator Carol Chicoine. She said measurements have been taken of the boats and hoists to check for compliance with the city’s rules.

It stems from issues that city officials say have been ongoing. Council member Paul Sieh says unless the problems are resolved, he’s going to recommend the city convert the access back to strictly a swimming and fishing area.

An increase in permit fees for the access is also being considered.
