(Spencer)– A Spencer man has been charged with delivering methamphetamine to minors.
32-year-old Melvin Hoyt Roberts, Junior has been charged with seven counts of the offense.
Roberts is being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 66,250-dollars.
Spencer police say their investigation started in January of this year when the Iowa Department of Human Services notified them of a drug overdose and hospitalization of a Spencer juvenile.
Authorities say the investigation was centered around the delivery of methamphetamine from November, 2002 through January, 2003. Six counts involve delivery within Spencer city limits to three different juvenile females. One additional count was filed for a similar incident at a residence in rural Clay county.
Roberts was arrested on April 22nd in Mankato, Minnesota on a warrant. He waived extradition and was transported to the Clay county jail on Monday of this week.
Under Iowa code, methamphetamine delivery to a minor is a felony, punishable by a maximum prison sentence of 99 years.
The Spencer Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Clay County Attorney’s Office.
