SL School Bd. Approves Revised Consultant’s Agreement

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school board Monday approved an amended contract with CPMI, the district’s construction consultant, for services on the second phase of the high school rennovation and middle school project.

The contract is being amended by an additional 230-thousand dollars, bringing the total to 669-thousand. Larry Gleason of CPMI told the board the additional cost reflects additional time that was needed to plan and coordinate the project.

Gleason also presented the board with revised cost estimates on the construction portion of the project…totaling slightly more than 1.9 million dollars. He cautioned the cost could go higher as there’s a question over the suitability of soil at the middle school site.

Gleason also presented a revised timeframe for the project. It calls for a bidletting in late July or early August; construction at the middle school would start in August with the high school not getting under way until the summer of 2004. The middle school project will consist of additional classrooms and restrooms; the high school project involves a rennovation of mechanical equipment in the Schuchert addition.

The board also Monday voted to sign on with U-S Bancorp/Piper Jaffrey as a bond consultant for the project.

The board was also informed that interviews for the Middle School Principal position will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27th and 28th. Superintendent Tim Grieves says as of Monday they had 40 candidates for the position.

As KUOO news reported earlier, Larry Bandy will be resigning from the position at the end of the current school year. He’s accepted a Principal position with an elementary school in Sioux Falls.

The board Monday formally accepted Bandy’s resignation…with regret.
