(Dickens)– A report of shots fired in Dickens Wednesday resulted in authorities seizing a number of items from a residence and in charges being filed against two suspects.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says officers were called to 313 2nd Street in Dickens upon getting a report of someone shooting at a neighbor. Upon arriving deputies determined the individuals involved had fled to 306 2nd Street where deputies made contact with them. A third individual wanted in the incident wasn’t there at first, but later returned and also cooperated with authorities.
Two of the three were taken into custody. They’re identified as 20-year-old Chase Foote and 22-year-old Craig Clopton both of Dickens. Foote was wanted on two outstanding warrants for allowing a dog to run at-large; Clopton was charged with simple assault; possession of drug paraphernalia and shooting a projectile over a public road.
No charges were filed against the third suspect.
Deputies then obtained and executed a search warrant on the residence at 306 2nd Street in Dickens. It resulted in the seizure of some pellet and BB guns, drug paraphernalia, ammunition and edged weapons.
Upon further investigation it was determined the suspects had displayed and/or were shooting BB guns, not firearms, and that contrary to what was initially reported to authorities, the two had not actually gone over to a neighbor’s residence with the guns.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
