Osceola Co. Officials Arrest Worthington Man On Sex Charge; Possible Immigration Violation

(Sibley)– A 27-year-old Worthington, Minnesota man is being held in the Osceola county jail in Sibley on sex charges and an INS detainer for possibly being in the country illegally.

27-year-old Jorge Eduardo Mercado was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday for allegedly committing a sex act on a 17-year-old female. She was a co-worker of Mercado’s at a rural Harris business. Seth Hoffman, a lieutenant with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, says the alleged incident took place at the business November 18th.

Sexual abuse in the third degree is a class “C” felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 10-thousand dollars upon conviction.
