Okoboji Council Approves Water Rate Hike

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Water rates are on their way up in Okoboji.

The city council Tuesday voted unanimously to approve the increase, with the minimum rate of 20-dollars per quarter going to 24. The rate per thousand gallons used will go from $1.70 to $2.10. City Administrator Dennis Daly says this will be the first in what will be a series of water rate increases in Okoboji over the next three to four years. He says the additional revenue is needed to offset improvements being made at the Central Water System treatment plant and to cover the cost of some water-related projects in the city. Daly says it’s the first time in some 13 years or so water rates in Okoboji have been adjusted.

On somewhat of a related note, the council also Tuesday decided to proceed with plans in extending a water main along 175th Street, or Stakeout Road, at an estimated cost of 135-thousand dollars. Daly says it will likely be included in the project to increase water pressure on the city’s north side.

On another matter, the council reviewed a request from the Trailview Condominium Association requesting street lights along Exchange Street. Daly says it’s something the city will provide for in its budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
