SL School Board To Consider Petition To Put $69.9 M Bond Issue On The Ballot In November

August 21, 2026

(Spirit Lake)– It didn’t take long to get the needed number of signatures for a petition to put a nearly $70 million bond referendum for a facilities improvement project at the Spirit Lake Community Schools on the ballot for the November 3rd election. Proponents needed to gather at least 150 signatures. They had that number and then some already by mid-day or so today (Friday, Aug. 21st), less than 48 hours after the school board approved moving forward with the plan Wednesday evening.

The Spirit Lake School Board will now meet in a special session at 12 Noon Monday, August 24th, to consider a resolution officially calling for the election. That will then be forwarded to the County Auditor.

This coming Wednesday, August 26th, is the deadline to get the paperwork filed with the county in order to get the measure placed on the ballot for the November 3rd election.
