NWIA Hunting Accidents Injures Boone Man

November 22, 2014

(Rolfe)– A Boone man was injured in a hunting accident Saturday in Pocahontas county.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 22-year-old Robert Snow of Boone was hunting with six others on private land southeast of Rolfe. Conservation Officer Brandon Bergquist says Snow was blocking the end of a field to prevent pheasants from running out of it when another hunter in his group fired at a flying pheasant, hitting Snow with seven pellets from about 60 yards. Snow was struck on his face above the lip, on the back of the right hand and his thigh.

Snow was taken to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt where he was treated and released.

Bergquist says Snow was lucky. He says the incident could have easily been much more serious.

Bergquist reminds hunters that additional precautions need to be taken when using such “post and drive” techniques.
