(Spencer)– Unemployment in the Corridor of Opportunity posted another decline in the month of November.
Information released Thursday by the Iowa Workforce Development shows the combined jobless rate for Clay and Dickinson counties stood at 2.9 percent compared with 3.1 percent in October and 3.2 percent in November 2002.
Chad Shryock, Executive Director of the Corridor, sites several factors for the decrease, including a strong local economy and an improving national economy.
Shryock says the November statistics from Workforce Development were good on all fronts for the Corridor. He says 420 more people were working in November than the same time a year ago and there were 1,500 more jobs than for the same month two years ago. He says there are also 370 more people active in the workforce this year compared to a year ago.
Shryock cautions though that there may be a slight upturn in the area’s jobless rates over the next couple of months. He says that’s typical for the time of year we’re entering and that it shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
