Milford Council Denies Boji Bay Funding Request

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Saying the city has no right to subsidize private business, the Milford city council voted unanimously Monday to deny a request for 60-thousand dollars in the upcoming year from Boji Bay. In return for the assistance, the water park was going to offer season passes to Milford residents at a reduced rate again this year. But several council members said they’re concerned over the appearance of the city subsidizing a private business, and that it could set a precedence. Council members also expressed concern over the budget and where the money would come from, saying the city hasn’t even started its budget process yet for the upcoming fiscal year.

In other business the council adopted a resolution approving a preliminary plat for Kelley’s Beach…which is within the city’s two mile jurisdiction.

They tabled action on a preliminary plat for Mayer’s Subdivision just south of South Shore Estates on Lower Gar Lake. Council members said they’d be willing to act on it once paperwork to voluntarily annex that area into the city is received.

The council also unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance requiring any dwelling that’s moved into the city of Milford be inspected by a certified building firm. The new requirement would NOT pertain to modular homes, which are automatically inspected following completion. Councilman Bud Kyle said he wanted to make sure it wouldn’t lead to a more thorough code inspection and enforcement program. He was assurred it would not.
