(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday approved a proposal from the fire department to purchase a new tanker truck at the apparent low bid of 164,254-dollars. Council members gave the go-ahead after being assurred the vehicle will fit in the current fire station.
The council approved a proposal from Milford Cable Television to purchase an emergency alert system required by the Federal Communications Commission. Total cost is 8,200-dollars. The city will foot a portion of the bill since it will be able to post emergency messages on the system as well.
City officials were directed to put together a revised ordinance allowing four-way stops at the corners of 7th Street and “H” Avenue and 8th Street and “H” Avenue near the high school. Council members are concerned over the volume and flow of traffic, which is being complicated by construction going on in the area.
The council also directed City Administrator Brian Reed to enter into talks with the county which is thinking about selling its maintenance building. The county is thinking about building a new one near a gravel pit on the east edge of town, but nothing definite has been decided yet. City officials say it would make sense to locate the city maintenance operations on the county site, since Milford Municipal Utilities recently purchased a nearby building for its maintenance operations.
