(Pocahontas)– An increased interest in renewable energy, wind energy in particular, has more and more landowners wanting to know their rights.
A meeting to explain those is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21st at the Expo Center in Pocahontas.
Jerry Chizek, I-S-U Extension Director for Calhoun county, says it’s becoming more and more of an issue as wind farms continue to pop up throughout the state. The Flying Cloud Wind Farm west of Spirit Lake has been in operation now a little more than a month.
Chizek says the January 21st meeting is intended to make landowners pro-active, so they know what questions to ask when a wind-energy developer pulls into their yard.
The January 21st meeting will feature several keynote speakers, including Jerry Richardson of the North Dakota Farm Bureau and President of “Harnessing Dakota Wind”. He and attorney James Kramer of Fort Dodge will talk about legal rights and contracts.
Those planning to attend are asked to pre-register by Friday, January 16th. The cost is five dollars per person in advance or 10-dollars at the door.
You can sign up by calling the Prairie Partners R C & D at 1301 6th Avenue North, Suite 4; Humboldt, Iowa…50548 or call (515) 332-1720.
