(Des Moines)– Mediacom, Iowa’s largest cable t-v provider, is raising some of its cable and internet rates.
The New York-based company blames sharp increases in operating expenses and costs for programming such as H-B-O and Showtime.
The increases, effective in March, will be felt mainly by subscribers with digital cable.
The rate hike comes as a standoff continues between Mediacom and Sinclair Broadcasting over how much Mediacom will pay Sinclair to carry its t-v stations.
Sinclair has 22 of its stations from Mediacom cable systems in 13 states, an action that left more than two million cable viewers without atleast one local station.
Iowa has the highest number of Mediacom subscribers of all the states–about 250-thousand.
