(Milford)– What used to be a water theme park in the Iowa Great Lakes is about to become a full-fledged amusement park.
Doctor Tim Cochran, owner of Boji Bay, told the Milford City Council Monday he’s planning to add a live concert venue in an outdoor entertainment area every Friday and Saturday evening through the summer. Construction on an 18-hole nascar-themed miniature golf course started Monday; and Cochran says they’ll be putting in a number of amusement rides including a fun slide, a ride that spins and turns, rock climbing wall, power-assisted trampoline, a large swinging ride called the yo-yo, a kid’s ferris wheel, a carousel, a kid’s roller coaster that has an alligator theme to it, a paratrooper, and a bounce house.
Cochran says the park’s hours will also be increased this summer, along with the number of employees.
He says plans are in the works to expand even more next year…including the possibility of more amusement rides and an elevated go-cart track. He says negotiations are under way with a company interested in building a hotel on the site.
Cochran is requesting some sort of contractual agreement with the city amounting to 150-thousand dollars a year for three years to help secure his investment in the improvements. The council took no action Monday on recommendations from a committee that was formed to look into the matter. They scheduled a joint meeting with the committee for 6:00 p.m. May 5th.
