(Des Moines)– Some local fire departments are among 93 in Iowa that will share in 227,729-dollars in matching federal funds to aid their efforts in battling cropland, grass and timber wildfires. The grants are being made through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry Bureau in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. The funds can be used to acquire wildfire suppression equipment, personal protective equipment and communications devices.
Local departments that have been awarded funding through the program include Arnolds Park/Okoboji, Peterson, Spirit Lake and Superior.
