(Spirit Lake)– The Lakes Art Center announced Friday it’s contributing a major piece of artwork to the Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts.
Tom Tourville, Chief Executive Officer of the Lakes Art Center, announced the center’s board of directors voted unanimously recently to contribute a piece by Frederick Brown valued at 175-thousand dollars.
“Spirits of Spirit Lake” depicts native american life in the Spirit Lake area and has actual artifacts attached to it that were found within a 20-mile radius of Spirit Lake.
The artwork was commissioned in 1995 by Bud Pearson of Okoboji. Perry Pearson spoke on behalf of the Pearson family at Friday’s ceremony. He says the family is very pleased to play a part in the contribution to the Sami Center. Pearson says the Sami Center will play an important role in furthering the arts among young people.
Tom Fuhrman, immediate past President of the Lakes Art Center’s board of directors, says Brown’s work is a perfect example of bringing things together and why it’s important to work together.
Spirit Lake School Superintendent Tim Grieves says the artwork will hang in the foyer of the Sami Center, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2007.
The piece is 15 feet long and seven feet high.
