(Undated)– July unemployment numbers showed some improvement in some local areas. But the statewide jobless rate hit a new high.
Latest numbers released today (Thursday) by Iowa Workforce Development indicate Iowa’s jobless rate in July was at four-point-six percent…up from four-point-two percent in June and four-point-one percent in July of last year.
There was some good news though, locally. Clay and Dickinson counties saw declines in their jobless rates. The July unemployment figure for Dickinson county was four percent…compared to four-point-four percent in June. Clay county saw its rate decrease from three-point-nine percent in June to three-point-seven percent in July.
O’Brien county saw its jobless rate go from two-point-seven percent in June to two-point-six percent in July; Osceola also posted a decline…going from three-point-three percent in June to three percent in July.
The news wasn’t as good in Emmet and Palo Alto counties, which posted increases. The July jobless rate for Emmet county was at seven-point-one percent…up from six-point-four percent in June; and Palo Alto county saw its unemployment climb from three-point-two percent in June to three-point-seven percent in July.
