(Jackson, Mn.)– A Jackson, Minnesota nursing home is closing its doors.
The home, located in the Jackson Medical Center, will close on or about this coming November 21st.
Jackson Medical Center C-E-O Dave Hove says it’s no longer feasible to keep the facility open. He says the home’s reimbursements from the state continue to decline. Hove says they’ll drop another 45-thousand dollars this year alone. He says that, along with other options for long term care, led the hospital’s board of directors to making the recommendation to close the JMC Nursing Home.
The Jackson city council approved the recommendation at its meeting Tuesday.
Hove says skilled nursing beds will be transferred to the city’s other nursing home, the Good Samaritan Center, but residents won’t be required to transfer to that facility alone. Good Samaritan officials say they have room at their Jackson facility for all of the JMC Nursing Home residents if they choose to transfer there.
The JMC Nursing Home employs 18 people. Good Samaritan officials say they hope to hire as many of those people as possible, depending on how many residents transfer to that facility.
Hove says the closure of the Jackson Medical Center’s nursing home shouldn’t be taken as an indication the hospital is suffering. He says patient volume there is actually increasing.
