High Asphalt Cost Affects Trail Project

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The high cost of road construction materials is not only resulting in higher costs for counties and the Iowa Department of Transportation, but a local trail group is feeling the impact as well.

The Dickinson County Trails Committee recently rejected a bid for asphalt paving for a trail to be extended along County Road M-40, or old Highway 276, on the west side of Big Spirit Lake.

The board of supervisors approved a request from the committee to re-bid the project with an option for concrete, with hopes it will come in cheaper than asphalt.
