(Spencer)– A 20-mile-per-hour speed limit that’s been in effect in the area of the Grand Avenue bridge project in Spencer is being expanded.
The Spencer Police Department and Iowa Department of Transportation say the 20-mile-per-hour zone will now start and end in the 400 block of South Grand Avenue. Signs will be posted later this week.
Officials say the 20-mile-per-hour limit in that area is strictly temporary for the bridge project and will revert back to 35-miles-per-hour once it’s complete.
Officials say they’re taking the action due to citizen complaints, crashes, approaching winter weather and a recent change in the construction zone traffic plan.
Spencer police say there have been 15 crashes in the Grand Avenue bridge construction zone since April.
