Governor’s Pheasant Hunt To Be Held In Dickinson County

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– The upcoming opener of Iowa’s pheasant season will have special significance for the Iowa Great Lakes Area.

For the first time in its 17-year history, the Governor’s annual pheasant hunt will be held October 31st and November 1st in Dickinson county.

Ross Harrison of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says there were several factors behind Dickinson county being selected to host the Governor’s hunt this year. They include the local Pheasants Forever chapter, which Harrison says is one of the most active in the state. He adds an abundant population of pheasants here didn’t hurt, either.

Harrison says about 50 people will be in the Governor’s hunting party, along with local guides.

Harrison says the event is sure to have a positive impact on the local economy.

Harrison says the Governor’s Pheasant Hunt got it’s start in 1986 by then-Governor Terry Branstad who coordinated events designed to draw people back to the state.
