(Spencer)– Spencer police think they’ve cracked a residential burglary ring.
Authorities say they received a report of suspicious activity Wednesday in the 900 block of First Avenue Southwest. Upon arriving officers determined a residential burglary had just taken place and were given descriptions of two suspects and the vehicle they were driving.
Authorities spotted the vehicle a short time later. The vehicle and persons inside it were positively identified by the witness as the persons seen at the break-in. The occupants of the vehicle, Ryan Stone and Craig Clopton…both 16-years-old and both from Spencer, were taken into custody. Stone was charged with 11 counts of third degree burglary…each a class “D” felony; and one count of attempted burglary…an aggravated misdemeanor. He was taken to the juvenile detention facility in Cherokee. Clopton was charged with one count of third degree burglary…a class “D” felony. He was released to a parent.
Police say a follow-up investigation led to the arrest of two more persons…Caleb Brewer and Lucas Krieg…both 17 and both from Spencer. Brewer was charged with two counts of third degree burglary…each a class “D” felony and was taken to the juvenile detention center in Cherokee. Krieg was charged with two counts of third degree burglary…each a class “D” felony, and was taken to the juvenile detention facility.
The arrests led to the execution of two search warrants. Based on interviews and evidence seized in the searches, police say they’re confident they’ve solved the recent rash of residential break-ins in Spencer.
Spencer police say their investigation continues and more arrests are possible.
