(Okoboji)– One of Iowa’s former Governors was in the Iowa Great Lakes Area Thursday evening.
Robert Ray addressed a gathering of community leaders at the Inn. Th eformer Governor helped start a program in Iowa called Character Counts. He says it’s designed to reinstill the six pillar values of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship in young people.
Scott Raecker, Executive Director for the Institute of Character Development, also addressed the gathering. He says the Character Counts Program is catching on throughout the state. He says implementing and demonstrating character development components needs to be everyone’s responsibility.
The Okoboji Community School District implemented the Character Counts program three years ago. And school officials say they’re pleased as to how it’s improved school climate.
The Dickinson County Visioning Committee has made implementing the Character Counts program on a county-wide basis a priority.
