Final Man Charged In Gang Murder Pleads Not Guilty

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A man accused of kidnapping and second-degree murder in connection with a 1997 gang killing in northwest Iowa has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say Juan Humberto Astillo-Alvarez is the last of ten suspects believed to have been involved in the June 1997 killing of Gregory “Sky” Erickson over a disputed drug debt.

Astillo-Alvarez, who was recently extradited from Mexico, entered his plea Monday in Clay County District Court. He’s being held on one million dollars bond.

A trial date is set for December 5th.
