(Sioux City)– Federal drug charges have been filed against a Worthington, Minnesota man.
U-S Attorney Charles Larson, Senior says 23-year-old Luis Alfonso Vela-Coronado has been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. The charge is contained in an indictment filed August 19th of this year in U-S District Court in Sioux City.
The indictment alleges that between about July 1st, 2002 and through about December 6th, 2002 Vela-Coronado conspired to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a methamphetamine mixture, cocaine and marijuana in the northern district of Iowa and elsewhere.
If convicted, Vela-Coronado faces a minimum of five years in jail and possibly up to 40 years, along with a two million dollar fine and four years to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.
Vela-Coronado appeared October 6th in federal court in Sioux City and was held without bond. Trial is set for December 1st.
