(Spirit Lake)– With Thanksgiving coming up Thursday, you can expect to see more law enforcement officers on the road this week.
The Iowa State Patrol, local police and sheriff’s offices are participating in the STEP, or Special Traffic Enforcement Program.
Vince Kurtz of the State Patrol’s Spencer office says they’re looking for speeders, those not wearing seatbelts and impaired drivers.
Kurtz is also reminding drivers to be on the lookout for deer, especially in the morning before dawn and in the evenings. He says deer are especially active this time of year due to the mating season and harvest.
