Entities Forced To Pay More On W. Okoboji Drainage Project

November 22, 2014

(West Okoboji)– Governmental entities that were involved in a drainage project in West Okoboji are being asked to pay more than what had originally been requested of them.

The project involved the construction of a retention area, intakes and tile to handle increased run-off from the Riverwest area on the north edge of Milford. The cost was assessed to neighboring property owners, the cities of West Okoboji and Milford, Dickinson county and the Iowa Department of Transportation. The D-O-T was originally supposed to pay about 33-thousand dollars. But a loophole the state found resulted in their payment being lowered to about 20-thousand, leaving the local entities to pick up the 13-thousand dollar difference.

The city of West Okoboji was originally supposed to pay 2,736-dollars. The change means it will now have to pay 6,700-dollars. The city council earlier this week expressed some frustration about the matter, but agreed to pay the higher assessment.
