(Estherville)– Officials in Emmet county say Highway nine is getting shortchanged and needs more attention from the state.
The issue was a topic of discussion at a board of supervisors meeting earlier this week.
One supervisor, Ron Smith, described the state highway system in this part of the state as “junk”.
Fellow supervisor Alan Madden suggested representatives from Emmet county who will be attending a legislative day March 14th in Des Moines carry a letter with them outlining their concerns.
Osceola county officials are also calling for improvements to the highway. State Senator David Johnson of Ocheyedan expressed his disappointment recently after learning Highway Nine is not included on the D-O-T’s list of projects scheduled for the next five years.
Emmet county supervisors plan to contact neighboring counties that have Highway Nine running through them to see if they’d be willing to get involved in an organized effort to push for improvements.
