Electrical Problem Results In Evacuation Of Wildrose Casino

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– A short in an underground electrical cable resulted in the Wildrose Casino in Emmetsburg being evacuated for several hours Monday evening.

Emmetsburg Fire Chief Frank Kliegl tells KUOO news firefighters were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. He says the short caused a power surge that went into a panel and blew out some breakers, causing a considerable amount of smoke to get into the casino.

Kliegl says an estimated 250 people that were in the casino at the time were safely evacuated. He says firefighters provided some temporary cooling, ventilation and lights to a lobby area and patrons were allowed back into the part of the establishment later. The casino, however, remained shut down until power was restored around 12:30 this (Tues.) morning.

Kliegl says they’re still trying to figure out what caused the short.
