Dickinson Supervisors Approve Shore Acres Road Transfer

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors today (Tuesday) voted five-to-nothing to transfer a road in the Shore Acres area on the northwest side of Big Spirit Lake into the county’s secondary road system.

The supervisors took the action after learning the county has the necessary easements allowing for improvements to be made to the road.

The project will be financed through a tax increment finance district being established in that area.

The county will also now be responsible for maintaining the road, including snow removal.

In other business, the supervisors approved the issuance of 750-thousand dollars in Senior Housing Revenue Bonds for a senior citizen assisted-living facility to be built in Spirit Lake. The county will act strictly as a conduit, or pass-through for the bonds, and it was emphasized the action will have no affect on county taxpayers.

With Chairman David Gottsche dissenting, the supervisors voted four-to-one to enter into a 28E agreement with a firm that will audit the various agencies the county does business with for mental health services.

The supervisors also approved a recommendation by Sheriff Greg Baloun to appoint deputy Tony Petersen as a lieutenant in the Sheriff’s Office…replacing Don Gude who stepped down from the title.

The supervisors also held public hearings and bid lettings on improvement projects in Drainage Districts One and Five in the Superior and Terril areas.
