Dickinson Co. P & Z To Consider Re-Zoning Request For Drive-In Theatre

November 22, 2014

(Superior)– Think drive-in theatres are something from the past? Think again.

Kemp Enterprise of Alpha, Minnesota wants to build a drive-in movie theatre on some land west of Superior near the Jackson “Y”…the junction of Highways Nine and 71 north.

The company has filed an application with the Dickinson County Planning and Zoning office requesting a parcel of land in the southwest corner of Superior Township be rezoned from Agricultural to Highway Commercial. The Planning and Zoning Commission will take up the matter at its meeting at 1:00 p.m. Monday.

At one time there were two drive-in theatres in the lakes area. The “Spirit” drive-in theatre operated in the 1960’s and 70’s where the Wal-Mart store is at currently in Spirit Lake. The Lakeland drive-in operated on land where a trailer court is now located on Highway 71 on the north edge of Milford.
