Dickinson Co. Endowment Fund Awards 1st Round Of Grants

(Spirit Lake)– The board of directors of the recently established Dickinson County Endowment Fund Wednesday announced the recipients of its first round of grants.

Spokesman Ben Alspach tells KUOO news they received a total of 25 applications from various civic, educational, family service, youth, religious and patriotic organizations operating throughout Dickinson county. He says the board elected to provide full or partial funding to 19 of those, totalling slightly more than 43,300-dollars. The grant awards vary from 750-dollars to five thousand. The majority are in the one thousand to three thousand dollar range.

Alspach says the funding decisions were based on several criteria, such as need and benefit to the community, breadth of impact, matching funds leverage and long term effect/sustainability.

The grant awards are as follows:

Lake Park Library $2,565 for microfilming
ISU Extension 4-H $1,350 for it’s Ricochet Youth Program
CHAPCO (Timeout Nursery) $1,500 for equipment and supplies
Dickinson County Kinship $3,700 for camp scholarships and mentoring
Priority #1 of Dickinson County $1,000 for its AmeriCorps youth worker program
Camp Foster YMCA $1,500 for upgrades to its Ropes challenge course
Seniors and Lawmen Together $3,500 for its Trails Patrol program ATV and accessories
Faith Evangelical Free Church $750 for a freezer for youth programs
Milford Fire Department $4,516 for GPS equipment and accessories
Spirit Lake Hall of Achievement $1,000 for display equipment
Lakes Community Theatre $2,500 for a Prairie Fire youth play production
Terril Library/Community Center $4,150 for various improvements
Joyful Journies Daycare $1,500 for equipment and supplies
Bedell Family YMCA $2,000 for its Y-Splash youth swimming program
Upper Des Moines Opportunity $5,000 for its Back-To-School program
Milford Kiwanis Club $1,000 for fundraising rental tent
Lakes Art Center $1,500 for youth concerts and artist workshops
Voluntary Action Center $3,000 for its in-home healthcare support
Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council $3,280 for lifesaving equipment.

Alspach says forms for the 2007 round of grants will be available starting July 1st, 2007.
