Dick. Co. Supervisors Opt Not To Cut Budget For Now

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– No cuts will be made to Dickinson county’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year…atleast not right now.

The board of supervisors Tuesday opted not to take any action after reviewing figures for the current fiscal year showing a stronger ending fund balance than what had been earlier forecast.

In addition, new information indicates the county will be receiving 67-thousand dollars less in state money, compared to 97-thousand mentioned earlier.

Supervisors were quick to point out though they won’t be able to entertain any new requests for money…especially those that have to come out of the Rural Basic Fund…which has been especially hard hit.

In other business, it was the concensus of the supervisors to put a dollar amount on the courthouse bond issue of 14.9 million dollars…compared to 15.1 million previously mentioned. Supervisor Paul Johnson said the 14.9 million dollar figure would amount to a 12 cent increase per thousand dollars valuation on a house with a value of 100-thousand dollars. That impact is actually lower than in some previous bond issues which were for smaller amounts. Officials credit a decrease in interest rates and a huge increase in valuation for the difference.

September 30th has been set as the date for the Dickinson county courthouse bond issue referendum.
