Clay County Pursuit Results In Charges Against Two Men

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Multiple charges have been filed against two Spencer men following a pursuit Friday evening in the Webb and Gillett Grove areas.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it all started around 6:45 p.m. when a deputy tried to pull over a truck south of Gillett Grove on 290th Avenue. Authorities say the driver, Ryan Sassman of Spencer, failed to pull over and continued into Webb where he and a passenger, Kenley Buettner, bailed out of the truck, leaving it in neutral. A deputy gave chase as the truck rolled back into him. The deputy some how escaped injury.

Troopers with the Iowa State Patrol and additional deputies from the Clay and Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Offices joined in the search for Sassman and Buettner. Sassman was found a short time later on the east side of Webb and was arrested without incident. Buettner was arrested Saturday.

Sassman was charged with eluding; providing false information to a peace officer; interference with official acts; improper registration plate light; reckless driving and open container.

Buettner was charged with open container and interference with official acts.

Both men were booked into the Clay county jail.
