(Spencer)– A Clay county roadworker has discovered what appears to be the remains of a meth lab.
Sheriff Randy Krukow says a fire extinguisher used to hold anhydrous ammonia and other meth-making by-products were found at the site on 420th Street just northeast of Gillet Grove.
The roadworker discovered the items just before Noon Tuesday.
The State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force assisted in the clean-up of the materials.
Krukow says it was just last week that he gave a presentation to county workers on meth labs and what to look for when they are out in the county. He says the demonstration included how meth makers use fire extinguishers to store anhydrous ammonia.
Krukow says they’re continuing to investigate the evidence taken from the site to try to find those responsible.
