Brush Fire Narrowly Misses House & Gas Tank

November 22, 2014

(Wallingford)– A brush fire that got out of hand made for some tense moments Sunday for Wallingford firefighters.

Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says the Wallingford Fire Department was called to the Gene Schacherer residence on Highway Four south in Wallingford shortly after 5:30 p.m. Fischer says a brush fire had gotten out of control on the southwest side of a house. It spread quickly to some nearby tires and an electrical pole and burned a hose off a gas barrel. Firefighters put the tires out by spraying foam on them. They were able to cool down the gas tank, preventing it from igniting or exploding. Some nearby trees and grass also burned.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene about a half hour. They were assisted by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office.
