(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday formally approved the sale of some excess city-owned right-of-way.
Three different parcels of property were sold after public hearings drew no opposition.
The council voted four-to-nothing to approve the sale of a portion of the former China Blossoms property to Mrs. Lady’s for 117,500-dollars. They approved the sale of the remaining parcel to Chad Geske for seven thousand dollars. The council voted three-to-one to sell some excess right-of-way along Dam Road to John Wanninger, an Omaha developer who’s building a new condominium complex in that area, for 12,337-dollars…much less than the appraised value. Councilman Jason Christensen cast the lone no vote. And Mike Koppert, a fellow councilman, said he wants any future sales of excess city property put up for public bid. City officals say tight restrictions that were put on the land Wanninger purchased warrant the lower price.
Arnolds Park council members were also informed attorney and consulting fees for the Opportunity Is Calling Committee could range between 50-thousand and 60-thousand dollars. The committee is looking into the feasibility of starting up a municipal telecommunications utility in four lakes area communities.
