(Okoboji)– The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District is marking the completion of two major projects to improve and upsize its infrastructure through the central corridor of the lakes area. Superintendent Steve Anderson says one of those was the installation of 17,000 feet of new piping along with the relocation of a lift station in the Hayward’s Bay area to bring it out of the West Lake Okoboji flood plain…
“That lift station, we’ve made it bigger, looking at future growth projections and things like that. And then we relocated where that lift station pumps, that was all that work that was done out in front of AmericInn and Arrowwood last year, and so that project helped the capacity in the center core lines that we have going through the center of the Lakes Area, and then that’s also, the next phase of that project will be putting gravity sewer on the southern edges of Center Lake to work on getting the houses there and septic systems out there off of that for water quality protection for Center Lake.”
The other recently completed project involved the installation of some new, larger pipes on the east side of Arnolds Park…
“We did a little bit of work over in the Orr’s Campground area and then we also did some work over to the north of there at Bridges Bay. So Linden Road was closed down this spring for a couple weeks. That went a lot quicker than we thought it would, which was good, and then we did work over on Rohr Street last fall and got that paved up this spring, so.”
Anderson says streets and roads that were torn up due to the work have been re-paved are once again open to traffic.
Now, he says the Sanitary District is working with Wahpeton and Orleans on some projects in those towns.
Anderson says construction on the next phase to bring sanitary sewer service to the south side of Center Lake is tentatively scheduled to start in July, after the 4th. He says that will impact portions of 165th Street, 231st Avenue and 225th Place.
Anderson thanks the public and the governmental entities the Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District has been working with for their patience during the work.
